By my best guess I played football from 1979-1994 during that time I sustained many physical injuries and many ambulance rides. I broke fingers many times collarbone, blew out knees and even had my testicles kicked insides my body once(that's a story for another blog). But as it turns out it was the bell ringsers that will eventually do me in. Reflecting back on my early childhood school was hard and in elementary school I was behind early and around that time is when I got my first concussion about six years old I think playing youth soccer. I am left handed and can remember everything being backwards when trying to lean to write and read sometimes things would appear upside down. I just find it interesting that these thing coincide. Concussions early learning issues early??Lucky for me my parents were my best advocates at school and insisted on getting me the help I needed without being held back, which I think could have been bad as I was always the biggest kid in class already and the slowest when it came to reading. I hated reading groups I was always in the dump truck group while my pals were in the Ferrari group. I soon figured out a neat strategy being the funny guy. Being the class clown was my best option as reading wasn't working so I got a reputation as being somewhat of a feisty kid to handle in class. But I am happy to say that even though I had my share old lousy teachers at Elden Elementary I also had a few good ones. And they inspired me to become an educator myself eventually, that and I knew there had to be a better way to teach kids than what they were doing in the eighties.
